**Notes for PINNIAH T. HAWKINS:
Hilda Green Alligood Bowen is apparently the author of the family documentary that mostly
all of the Alligood history was taken from by F D Faulkner. I am indebted to her for her
effort. The information was passed to me by Sarah Skittletharpe Winberry. It was several
pages of copies of old type written information not totally organized, but gathered as best
as she could by Hilda, and, as I have done also.(FDF)
The following narrative was written by Hilda along with the family history gathered by her:
"Aunt Betty told me she, Pinniah was an English woman and always hung her clothes on the
line with her gloves on. From what I understand she looked like Aunt Net (Henrietta), very
small, black hair and small black eyes."
"My Grandmother and her Grandmother, Francis Mallison Wilkinson lived at 409 W Bonner St.
During the war they turned their upstairs into a hospital for the Confederate soldiers.
Some of them died there and the children said the house was haunted. Grandmother had a
sewing machine that had to be turned by hand. When Grandmother Pinniah went to see her
son, Frank Alligood, the children would get that old machine out and it would frighten
her so much, she wouldn't stay but one night. This pleased the children for she was so
prissy they couldn't do as they were accustomed to."
"Mrs. Mollie Vines made hats. Everyone had to have their hats made. She sold homemade
ice cream in the front of her store. The store was about where Jimmy's News Stand is now.
Pinniah would take her daughters to Mrs Mollie Vines and buy each a hat. Aunt Lou and my
Great Aunt told me this; When Pinniah went to Zion E. Church, she would lead the way, the
daughters after her, and no matter what the old organ was playing, it would go down the
scale and it was just as if the organ sang, Pinniah, Henrietta, Louisa and Susan and Nora,
(none) Nick name."
