The Beaufort County Genealogical Society met on 4-2-02 at Brown Library. At 7:00 pm President Ann Basnight welcomed 16 members.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved and accepted as read. Mary Disharoon presented newsletters and journals of interest. Special attention was given to the Craven County newsletter “Kintracks” which provided useful information concerning the Family History Library Reference Consultants, Church of Latter Day Saints: Consultants work at a general reference desk, create and edit publications, answer correspondence and perform other tasks. They do not offer a research service, but can suggest records to search to find information about ancestors. Mary had an e-mail from Plummer A. Jones relating he is updating the (Blounts Creek) Jones Book and would love to have additions and corrections to include in the new edition. Contact him at jonesp@mail.ecu.edu .

She also had an e-mail from the Deputy Director, Library/Archives Division, Wisconsin Historical Society providing information about Wisconsin sources available online. Mary had a letter from Christopher Watford, Thomasville, NC, who is compiling a collection of Civil War Letters, Diaries and First-Hand Accounts from NC. Anyone interested in contributing or seeing letters published can contact him at cmwatford@hotmail.com . She also had a query from Elizabeth Smith in New Jersey seeking information on the Archbell/Vincent family. Vernetta agreed to research.

The treasurer’s report was given.

Terria Baynor reported the “A thru C” cemetery records are indexed. Martha Baynor has Pamlico Memeorial Gardens completed and ready for indexing. Both projects now in Terria’s hands for disposition.

John Oden reported the Old Deed Book 1 is now ready for the printers. It will number approximately 200 pages. Also, the Washington Progress 1884-1906 project by the Chaunceys is ready for the printers.

OLD BUSINESS: The trip to Archives is scheduled for 4-20-02. Several members present signed up to go. Ann will contact Robbie Burbage regarding activating the call list. Janice Tyson reported the Washington County meeting was held on schedule but the speaker was unable to be there due to budget cuts.

NEW BUSINESS: Ann reminded us of the new Library Hours also as a result of recent budget cuts.

The evening’s program consisted of Ann, John and Louise Cowell providing handouts with instructions and pointers on using the facilities at the Archives. John mentioned the Rodman private collection/manuscripts yield much information and details not found elsewhere. They’re located in the State Library, 1st floor, Archives Building.

John motioned, Mary seconded to adjourn at 8:30pm
