The Beaufort County Genealogical Society met at Brown Library on 4-1-03. President Ann Basnight welcomed 25 members and guests.

The minutes of the previous meeting were approved and accepted as read. The Treasurer’s report was given.

Mary Disharoon presented the usual assortment of journals and newsletters. She reported the Virginia Bill #818 concerning destruction of wills was defeated. The Forida Bill has met with widespread opposition and has not been acted on at present. Kintracks, the newsletter from Craven County reported there will be an Old Dobbers/JCNC Reunion in Kinston, NC on June 25-28, 2003, sponsored by the Heritage Genealogical Society and the Historic Preservation Group in Kinston. One copy of the schedule and registration form will be in the History Room, Brown Library. Mary had received a copy of Family Chronicle, a Magazine for Families Researching their Roots along with several brochures offering free copies along with subscription information. Brochures will be placed in the History Room.

OLD BUSINESS:

President Basnight related the Hyde-Beaufort Dinner meeting on 3-15-03 was enjoyed by all who attended. She distributed brochures for the NCGS Eastern Regional Summer Workshop in July. Copies will be in the History Room.

The trip to Archives in Raleigh is on schedule for 4-5-03. Nineteen members have signed up to make the trip.

John Oden has finished Deed Book #1 and will be getting quotes from publishers for publication.

NEW BUSINESS:

John asked for articles, pedigree charts, bible pages for the June Pamteco Tracings. There was much discussion about collection and publication of bible pages. It was decided to make a project of it and Evelyn Cutler will coordinate the program.

There was discussion about BCGS signing up for Ancestry.com for Brown Library. Discussion was tabled for the time being.

Louise Cowell presented a letter from Mary Malone, Jacksonville, Fla., requesting assistance researching Levin Waters m. c. 1898 to Augusta Wallace. Isaac Waters, Evan Woolard and Priscilla Waters’ names were mentioned. John Oden will do the research.

The BCGS May 6 regular meeting will be in the office of the Clerk of Court at the Courthouse, 7:00 pm. Meet out front.

Judy Guthrie motioned, Terria Baynor seconded to adjourn at 7:45 pm.
