Beaufort County Genealogical Society Meeting

            The Beaufort County Genealogical Society met on Jan. 2nd at Brown Library at 7 p.m.  President Tyson welcomed and expressed New Year’s greetings to 15 members.

 

            There was no meeting in Dec.  The minutes of Nov. Meeting were accepted as read.  The treasurer’s reports for Nov. and Dec. were given.

 

            Mary Disharoon had a number of journals and newsletters of interest available.  The Pitt County Family Researchers sent a flyer advertising an Introductory Genealogy Course sponsored by the Burroughs-Welcome Genealogy Club beginning Jan. 20.  Registration information may be obtained from Annette Roebuck at 825-1921.  Miriam Lilja at 825-5261 or Bitt Kittrell at 758-2979.  Class space is limited.

 

            Disharoon had a letter of inquiry from England seeking information on a Charley Taylor and John Taylor, mentioning Beaufort and Hyde Counties.  She emailed the inquirer of the appropriate Hyde County address.  Vernetta Lange will research Beaufort County, Robbie will take a copy to the Pitt meeting.

 

            OLD BUSINESS:  Discussion concerning the 1733 map of Beaufort County centered around framing it and having it available in the Brown Library.  President Tyson will contact the librarian.

 

            NEW BUSINESS:  Louis Van Camp thanked the group for its support for his most recent book.  The first printing of 1200 has been sold.  He expressed interest in publishing a second book featuring the county.  Pictures and family information are welcomed.  Contact Van Camp at 975-6364.  He had a letter of inquiry concerning the Singletary name.  Robbie agreed to contact a known mutual researcher.

 

            Josephine Ross mentioned someone has left a folder containing pictures and family information in the Register of Deeds office.  Names included Owens, Ed Moore, Willey and Ambrose.  Contact Register of Deeds to reclaim.

 

            Louise Cowell mentioned the National Genealogical Society 2001 Conference in the United States will be in Portland, Ore., May 16 through 19.  Theme: “Explore New Frontiers.”  Registration brochures are available in the History Room, Brown Library.

 

            President Tyson advised the Board of Directors and Officers will meet immediately following the regular meeting Feb. 6.  This will also be a social evening.  The call list will be activated.
