The
Beaufort County Genealogical Society met at Brown Library on Oct. 2 at 7
p.m. President Tyson welcomed 14
members and guests. The minutes of the
previous meeting were accepted after one correction. The treasurer’s report was given. Louise reported the group has now sold 63 Census books and have
10 WPA 10 Delayed Birth Books available for purchase through BCGS.
Mary Disharoon presented a number of
newsletters and journals. The NCGS has
bake issues of journals available on CD ROM for $39.95 plus shipping and
handling. The subject of the NCGS
annual Workshop and Meeting on Nov. 2 and 3 in Raleigh is: North Carolina,
Geography and Genealogy: Moving In,
Moving Out and Passing Through.

A John Lawson symposium sponsored by
East Carolina University will be held on Oct. 19th and 20th. Registration forms are in the History Room,
Brown Library. You may also register by
e-mail at www.lawsontrek.com. A featured speaker will be Kenny Patterson,
Chief, Tuscarora Nation.
John Oden mentioned those doing
research in Virginia will find the William and Mary Quarterly on USGenWeb web
site. Special Collections Project
(Volume I 1892 to Volume 27 1919), interesting and helpful.
The volunteer calendar was passed.
Old business: The nominating committee chaired by Robbie
Burbage presented a proposed slate of officers for 2002: President, Ann Basnight; Vice President,
Terria Baynor; Treasurer, Louise Cowell; Corresponding Secretary, Mary
Disharoon; Recording Secretary, Vernetta Lange. Voting will be done at the next regular meeting in November.
Baynor reported on the Cemetery
Publications she’s been working on.
Discussion followed. Oden
motioned, Billy Singleton seconded that the group publish A through C of Mr.
House’s work and include cemeteries canvassed by others as BCGS gains their
permission. Motion carried.
Burbage will coordinate preparations
for the dinner meeting on October 6th at 6 p.m. in the fellowship
hall of Saint Clairs Church of Christ.
Kathy Brinn has volunteered to decorate. Tyson recommended the group leaves leftovers in the refrigerator
there for use by the revival attendees the next day. Oden motioned and Basnight seconded to donate $25 to the church
for the membership’s use of its facilities.
Motion carried. The speaker for
the evening will be Jack S. Goodman from the Cartaret County Historical
Society.
New business: Baynor mentioned that Lewis Forrest will be
the speaker at the regular meeting in November. Tyson mentioned Sion Harrington from NCDAH is willing to speak at
the fall meeting next year.
Oden motioned, Basnight seconded to
adjourn at 8:05p.m.
