Beaufort County Genealogical Society Meeting

         The Beaufort County Genealogical Society met at Brown Library on Feb. 6.  President Tyson Welcomed 34 members and guests at 7 p.m.

        

         The minutes of the January meeting were accepted as read.  The treasurer’s report was given.

 

         Mary Disharoon had several newsletters and journals available.  She had a letter from a recent researcher complimenting the excellent research materials in the History Room and at the society, and thanking Mary and Louise Cowell for their assistance.  She had another letter of inquiry concerning the name of Henry Amos, 1803.  Applications to attend the National Genealogical Society Regional Conference in Raleigh on March 24, are available.  Call Mary or Chris Oakley.  The volunteer calendar was passed.

 

         OLD BUSINESS:  The computer that the society donated to the History Room for genealogical research is on line and ready for use.  There was additional discussion concerning the 1733 map the librarian has agreed would be a welcome addition to the same room.  The topic was tabled for additional discussion.  Evelyn Cutler reported that Van Studio has the school pictures about half completed.

 

         NEW BUSINESS:  Tyson presented a flyer advertising a seminar on genealogy to be held on Monday, Feb. 19, 6 p.m. Building 8, at Beaufort County Community College.  Subject:  “Basics of Completing a Genealogical Search.”  The seminar will cover basic aspects of tracing genealogy through the internet as well as public records.  There is no charge for this seminar. 

 

         Judy Guthrie has a price list for CD’s available for use with the computer.

 

         Louise Cowell reminded everyone it’s time to pay the dues for 2001.

 

         Guthrie motioned, Cowell seconded, to adjourn at 7:30 p.m.  A refreshment period followed.
