Genealogical Society Meeting Minutes

            The Beaufort County Genealogical Society met a Brown Library March 6, at 7 p.m.  President Tyson welcomed 16 members and guests.

            The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read.  The treasurer’s report was given.  Member Adelaide Lewis of Fla., sent a generous donation.

            Mary Disharoon presented several newsletters of interest, and reminded the group of the National Genealogical Society regional conference March 24 in Raleigh.  She had a flyer advertising a Family Research Workshop for Tyrrell and Washington Counties, conducted by Charles Barnes and Gordon Basnight.  The workshop will include an Introduction to Family Research on the Internet, USGENWEB project, Tyrrell/Washington Records available, a demonstration of Internet Research, Use of Family Tree Maker and related subjects.  It will be held during the regular monthly meeting of Washington County Genealogical Society, but the location will be announced in local papers upon determination.  Members and the general public are invited.  Further information is also available at shirleyanphelps@sprintmail.com.

            Old business:  The 1733 map has been placed under glass on the desk located in the History Room.  A list of the names pinpointed on the map will be left with the library staff.

            Judy Guthrie and committee members will discuss compact discs to possibly purchase, for library use in the History Room.

            New business:  Tyson announced the Hyde-Beaufort dinner meeting scheduled for March 17 at the Masonic Lodge in Fairfield at 7 p.m.  Those attending need to be counted by March 15.  He also mentioned the Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society has moved its library to the Mattamuskeet School Community Library.

            Terria Baynor confirmed the Baynor family reunion will be held on April 28.  Baynor can be contacted at 923-0780 for information, and to confirm attendance by April 26.  Attendees are encouraged to bring pictures, data, anything they wish to share.
