Rufus Helthfin Mixon was born in 1873 in Aurora, Beaufort County, North Carolina, the son of Benjamin Henry Mixon and Clarissa White Hudnell. He married Texas Creef in 1895 in Aurora. She died in 1917. Rufus died in 1945, possibly in Washington, NC. My mother's brother, Norwood Lee Mixon lived in Washington as did his son, Norwood Lee Jr., who just recently died. Norwood Lee Jr's daughter LeAnne Mixon still lives in Washington. The photo of Rufus was taken at my mother's wedding in 1940 in Richmond, VA. My mom is living with my sister in Dallas now, and will turn 91 this November. She lived alone in Michigan up until this summer, maintaining her house and able to drive her car. All of this got started from my interest in genealogy and my role as family historian. The Yaw family had been partially traced but a lot was missing. As it turns out, we are related on the Yaw side to Richard Warren, a Mayflower passenger. The Mixons immigrated to Virginia in about 1650 and started out in Abingdon Parish, VA. They moved to North Carolina from there and then spread out through South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida, and Texas. Another of my mother's stories relates to going to see the entertainment on the showboat that docked in Aurora and Bath every summer (and was supposedly the inspiration for the movie and play "Showboat"). Apparently she and her brothers would see the show every night in Aurora and then see every show in Bath. It was entertainment for the entire summer. I am still working on getting her to fill in the details. Let me know if I can provide anything else. Edwin C Yaw eyaw@loc.gov
