 Elias STALLINGS- Will

 In the name of God Amen;  I Elias STALLINGS of Bertie County, North
Carolina being very weak and low of body but in perfect and sound mine
and memory calling to mind that it is appointed for all men once to die.  
I make this my Last Will and Testament, in manner and for as follows 
that is to say first I give and recommend by Soul unto the hands of the 
Almighty God that gave it to me and my body to be buried in a decent 
manner at the discretion of my executor hereafter named as for what 
worldly estate it has pleased God to bestow on me I dispose the same 
as follows:

  Item: First, I desire that my just debts and funeral expenses shall be
fully paid and satisfied.

  Item: I give and bequeath to my Son John STALLINGS the sum of one
Shilling, Sterling money of Great Britain to him and his heirs.

  Item:  I give and bequeath unto my Son Elias STALLINGS the sum of one
Shilling, Sterling money of Great Britain to him and his heirs.

  Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son Moses STALLINGS the sum of one
Shilling, Sterling money of Great Britain to him and his heirs.

  Item: I give and bequeath unto my grandson John Macklohon the some of 
one Shilling, Sterling money of Great Britain to him and his heirs. 
(Addendum: Judah's son)

  Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son Jesse STALLINGS my (grate coat) to
him and his heirs.

  Item: I give and bequeath unto my Son Josiah STALLINGS two hundred acres
of land lying upon Muck Elroy and my Negro man named Tom to him and his heirs.

  Item: I give and bequeath unto Marey and Nicols Rasbery all my (love).

  Item: I give and bequeath unto My Daughter Margaret Jenkens thirty pounds 
prock money to be raised out of my Estate to her & heirs.

  Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Susannah Birde thirty pounds
prock money and and to his and her heirs.

  Item: I give and bequeath all the remaining part of my Estate to my Son
Josiah STALLINGS to him and his heirs.

 And also make and appoint my Son Josiah STALLINGS to be my true and sole 
Executor of this my Last Will and Testament rectifying this and no other 
will before made by me to be my Last Will and Testament,  In witness where 
of the said Elias STALLINGS scner (signer) has hear unto set my hand and 
seal this first day of March in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven 
Hundred and Sixty Three signed and sealed in the presents of:

 This is the will of Elias STALLINGS Jr., said to be the son of Elias
 STALLINGS Sr., the son of Nicholas STALLINGS Sr., of Nansemond Co., VA.

Josiah STALLINGS - Will

In the name of God Almighty Amen;  I Josiah STALLINGS of Bertie County,
North Carolina, being weak and low of body but of  perfect and sound 
mind make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows, 
that is to say, first I give and recommend my Soul unto Almighty God who 
gave it me and my body to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion 
of my executor hereafter named and as to what worldly estate it has 
pleased God to bestow on me I dispose the same as follows:

  Item:  First, I desire that my just debts and funeral expenses shall 
be all fully paid and satisfied.

  Item:  I give to my wife Mary STALLINGS two negroes named Tom & Phillis
during her life likewise the Plantation whereon I live until my son John 
is twenty one years old and one third of during her life if she lives 
single likewise.  I give her six cows and calves, one pair of five year 
old steers, one pair of four year old and one pair of two year old steers, 
one black mare and colt, six sows and pigs, twenty hogs that will be two 
years old this coming winter and ten that will be one year old at the same 
time, four ewes and lambs, one ram and one winter the use of the Brandy 
Still, this season, like wise the use of one of the houses, furniture 
during her life or other wise to be soldlikewise the use of a young Negro 
wench named Jude during her life.

  Item:  It is my will that my Plantation lying on the south side of the 
Beaver Dam Swamp containing a hundred acres of land on which Zachariah 
Archer nowlives together with my stills after the use of them for this 
season to my wife and all the items not mentioned above likewise the 
furniture not above mentioned be hers.  The Negros, Tom, Phillis & Jude 
with her increase.  After my wifeâ?Ts death shall be equally divided
between my daughter Betty and my son John STALLINGS.

  Item: I give to my son John STALLINGS all my lands lying on the North 
side of the Beaver Swamp Dam together with all the money arriving from 
the sales of my lands, stills and stocks above mentioned after the 
deduction of the hundred pounds due for my daughter or a husband which 
he is to be possessed of when he comes to the age of twenty one.

  Item: It is my will that a house eighteen feet square or a shed and piazza 
be built on the plantation which I now live to be paid out of money which I 
have by me and is due to me and the remainder of all my estate not mentioned 
above. I give to my son John, he is to be possessed of it at twenty one.

  Item: As I have given my wife Mary STALLINGS the use of the Plantation
hereon I now live with the goods and stock as above mentioned.  It is my 
will that she bring up the two children which God has given us till they 
are of age and give them suitable & sufficient schooling, paying the 
extraordinary expense out of their portion, viz the money which is paid to 
the master.  I also make and appoint Capt. Moses Sumner, James Yearly and 
my wife Mary STALLINGS the Executors of this my Last Will and Testament.

       In witness whereof the said Josiah STALLINGS have here unto my hand
and seal the fourteenth Day of May in the year of our Lord, One thousand, 
Seven hundred and Seventy two.
