Mary Good "Polly" Nelson was born July 3, 1798 in Pitt County and died October 23, 1877. She was the widow of James F. Edwards who died 3 September 1843 (aged 49 yrs). Both are buried in the Buck Cemetery in Pitt County. Mary Good was the daughter of Martin Nelson b. 1755 and died in October of 1820 and Elizabeth (Unk). Two sons in 1850 were still at home, William Nashville b. circa 1832 died on 22 May 1864 in the Civil War. He died in Charity Receiving Hospital in Gordonsville, VA. Lewis John b. circa 1836 died 5 June 1862 aged 26 years. He was killed in a skirmish at Tranters's Creek, NC. He is buried beside his parents in the cemetery. Lavinia, the black serving child in the household identity is unknown. Reference is made to Lavinia & George in one of the letters written home by Lewis John in the Civil War.
